One of the SEO basics you need to learn is how to get your website crawled. Not getting your site crawled means that the search engines will not be aware that your site exists or see new pages as you post them.

Imagine your site as a story in a newspaper and imagine the search engines as readers flicking through that newspaper, if your story (website) does not catch the eye of those readers it does not get read. Because your story has not been read the newspaper readers (search engines) cannot tell anyone else about your story (website).

If search engines do not read or crawl your site they are not aware of what your site is about, so do not make internet users aware of your site by including your website in search results.

There are many things that affect how quickly and often your website is crawled. By far the biggest factor is how many good quality links you have from other sites pointing to yours. The more high quality links you have the more your site is crawled, so link building is crucial for getting your site crawled.
